This hotel built in the early thirties ,transformed in september 1939 into a military hospital, then occupied by the german army , later became the headquarters of the local resistance group ‘le maquis Louis’ . It contains thousands of authentic items from the era , propaganda , etc.. The owner ,who started collecting those at the age of 13 will tell you dozens of fascinating anecdots.

Visits from june to september (or by appointment outside those dates) every afternoon except mondays and tuesdays.

The Bibracte museum, created in 1995, is set on the slopes of mount Beuvray. Its architecture is very contemporary . It offers a fascinating insight in the Celt civilization through its ‘oppida’ (fortified cities) spread throughout Europe some 2000 years ago.Quite a few remains were found on site. Numerous models ,videos and installations make this a very attractive museum and a must-see . It holds a bookshop and a tea-parlour and you will be lent , free of charge, audioguides in dutch , german and english , which will make this a worthwhile experience. Don’t miss the view from the top pf the hill (2 minutes drive) : it is staggering !

BourgogneMusée du Septennat (26 Km)

Located in the convent Sainte-Claire, built in the 18th century, it opened in 1986. It contains official or personnal gifts received by the Président de la République, François Mitterrand, during his tenure and donated by him to the Département de la Nièvre. This collection gathers often luxurious artefacts donated by countries officials around the world with whom François Mitterrand had diplomatic relations . Those pageantry gifts offered by foreign heads of state are usually stunning artefacts produced by talented craftsmen.

This museum depicts the story of Coal extraction and the life of miners. You shall be taken underground to feel what this life was like. Charolais Museum of Agricultural Machinery in Neuvy-Grandchamp has a collection of more than 500 pieces of all brands: tractors, stationary engines, steam engines, threshers, cars, trucks and other objects of rural life.
