Originally built to facilitate the floating of wood from Clamecy to Paris, the Nivernais canal was an important communication axis which contributed to the economic development of the Vaux d'Yonne and its region until the arrival of the railway in the 19th century. century. It is now exclusively reserved for pleasure boating, and many boaters consider it to be one of the most beautiful canals in Europe, whose appeal is reinforced by the presence of remarkable works of art from the period. (vaults, tunnels, locks, drawbridge).
